The story of Orpheus and Eurydice is transported from ancient Greece to the streets of Rio de Janeiro during Carnival. Orfeu, a trolley driver and musician, falls in love with a young woman newly arrived in the city, unaware that tragedy is close behind. Directed by Marcel Camus and filmed on location in Brazil, Black Orpheus won both the Palme dOr and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
