Event Details

Concerts for Animals celebrates its first-ever Fall Gala a new tradition that will forevermore open new seasons of classical music in New York, featuring performances and commissioned works by exceptional orchestras, soloists, and composers. Before and after the concert, we host a cocktail reception and benefit dinner at the Penn Club. Both events are optional. Our season launches with the Orchestra of St. Luke's under the baton of Maestro Riccardo Frizza (appearing courtesy of the Metropolitan Opera), with soloists Kathryn Henry, Matthew Graybil, Anthony Ratinov, and Derek Wieland. The program features Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos (K. 365), a private film of Elgar, set to Mina a lush tribute to his eponymous terrier; songs of Clara Schumann; Nahre Sols virtuoso variations on "Happy Birthday"; and a world-premiere by Derek Wieland (of Trans-Siberian Orchestra fame), which sets Emily Dickinson's poem, "I Started Early - Took my Dog," to motifs from the rest of the program.
