Born in Minneapolis, Morris Day had a flair for fashion. Inspired by photographs of his grandpa in zoot suits, a true fashionista was formed. He went to school with Prince Rogers Nelson and sang in Princes first band Grand Central. When Prince grew as an artist, so did the opportunity for Morris. The Time was originally created as Princes alter ego to be seen as the cool, street wise funk band contrasting Princes more soulful R and B sound. Prince chose Morris Day as a lead vocalist for The Time and soon after that, Morris Day and The Time were cast in Purple Rain. Morris Day burst onto the public scene with the groups self titled album The Time which include Get It Up, Cool and Girl. Other albums produced hits like 777-9311, Wild and Loose, Walk, Gigolos Get Lonely Too and Jungle Love. He launched his solo career with the Color of Success, Daydreaming and Guaranteed albums.
