After seeing a live Shonen Knife performance, Joey Ramone referred to Osakas legendary pop punk trio as The Osaka Ramones, and over their decades long career of performances Shonen Knife embraced their Ramones infatuation by adopting and performing special shows under the moniker Osaka Ramones. This tribute project matured into a full-length album released in July 2011, featuring 13 carefully chosen Ramones covers recorded between Buffalo, NY (with producer and Goo Goo Dolls founder Robby Takac) and their hometown of Osaka, Japan. In these rare live concert appearances, the band don leather jackets and adopt the Ramones stylings, delivering spirited renditions of classics such as Blitzkrieg Bop, Rockaway Beach, and Rock and Roll High School, all with faithful arrangements and their signature cheerful, melodic twists.
