The Orchestra on the Hill is a 16-member ensemble made up of seasoned musicians from the Boston area, all graduates of top conservatories including Juilliard, Berklee, Eastman, and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Their latest project features original compositions by Thomas Palance, Chris Florio, Joe Mulholland, and Jerry Gates, written for chamber orchestra and inspired by the work of late visual artist Thorpe Feidt. Known for painting while listening to jazz, Feidt's art served as the foundation for this collaboration. Drawing on the energy and improvisational spirit of The Alchemy 5 jazz quintet, the composers translated the colors, shapes, and titles of Feidt's work into sound. The result is a body of music intended to deepen the viewer's engagement with Feidt's imagery through a shared visual and sonic experience.
